JPMA reveals highest pass rates in a decade

Crew training provider JPMA has announced the pass rates for its written and oral exams in 2018, recording its best numbers for a decade.

Anna Percival-Harris, managing director of JPMA, said, “Deck and Engineering modules and oral exams are our speciality, and we’re proud to announce our most recent results. We limit class sizes to ensure our student-instructor ratio gives the best possible outcome of exam and student experience.”

In its written exams, JPMA has revealed that the first attempt pass rate for ‘Master Celestial Navigation’ – a Deck OOW & Master module – remains at 100% for a second successive year, while ‘General Engineering Science I & II’ – Engineering modules for Yacht & SV – has a first attempt combined pass rate of 83%.

JPMA achieved its highest pass rate in 10 years (exact figures have not been disclosed) in its Deck oral exam, while an 80% first attempt pass rate was recorded in its Officer Of the Watch oral exam. Meanwhile, the Engineering oral pass rate is at an all-time high of 93%.

In a release, the academy noted that the results “reflect the commitment and determination that not only our students show, but also our instructors, who continue to enable seafarers to reach milestones within their yachting careers”.

JPMA offers training and tuition to Merchant Navy, Superyacht and Workboat professionals to all levels. Its speciality is preparation for MCA Oral exams for both Deck and Engineering, with a high pass rate on first attempt. The academy offers most of the written yacht modules for Deck up to Master <300GT and Engineering up to Y2 & SV Chief Engineer.
