Yacht Solutions at Italthai Marine is currently working on three superyacht refits at their Bangkok yard, Samut Prakarn. Two of the superyachts in the yard are a 60m Oceanco, and a 40m Benetti. However, the third really is a very unique yacht, the 62.7m S/Y Lamima.
Lamima was built in the traditional way by local craftsmen on the beach in Sulawesi, Indonesia. Once the hull and superstructure was completed, she was floated and set to go to a shipyard in Indonesia however, when this option became unavailable, her owners looked around Asia for an alternative option. She was then towed to Bangkok via Batam after the refit was awarded to Yacht Solutions at Italthai Marine for completion.
A skilled woodworking team, under the expert management of a traditionally trained wooden yacht builder, is currently working on all engineering fixtures.
A very hard, specific Indonesian mahogany iron wood, which is 10 times harder than teak, had to be brought in from Indonesia specially to complete this project. All plans have been re-developed to RINA class by the shipyard. The wooden mast and spars and the rigging have been specially designed and built in Spain (by Service Yates) and will be delivered into Thailand in the next couple of months.
