Requiring linen supplies, silverware and replacement table accessories are common requests for superyachts, but often an expert is required to ensure the smooth running and quality of the products.
Yachting Pages spoke to Tanja Jarkovoj of Jet & Yacht Comfort, to find out more about what’s involved in running a successful interior supply company and the demands required of today’s owners and crew. Tanja, who has previously worked on board superyachts, along with Jet & Yacht Comfort are well known for their expertise in both linen and table top supplies.
When was Jet & Yacht Comfort founded and how?
JYC was founded in September 2009 after my time in the yachting and private jet industries. I worked on board yachts as stewardess and head stewardess for seven years and then spent four years as a flight attendant on private jets. During that time I developed the idea to supply the jets with luxury products; living in Palma and with my history working in the yachting industry, it was natural to also supply to yachts.
How has the business developed over the years?
The business has constantly grown as I only started with supplying linen. I realised I could be an asset to yachts by also supplying whatever they asked for, i.e. silverware, glassware, fine china and toiletries. After finishing projects on the yachts I have also been asked to supply the owners’ villas, with linens, tableware etc... I have also supplied the owners with lamps and furniture as they were extending the list of products they wanted me to help them with. But obviously my expertise is linen and tableware.
How are you unique?
I think that my seven years in the yachting industry and four years on the yacht owners’ private jets has given me the knowledge of the needs of both the owners and crew. Budget, delivery times, storage, what to order for charters, specs for owners.... I can also make short delivery times and if they have a rare brand of a product, I often get mission impossible done.
With the importance of keeping to the deadline, the crew simply have to have the products in time to be able to satisfy the charter guests/owners. Every charter/visit by the owner will reflect on them and I am here to make sure they look good, i.e. advise accordingly and keep to the deadlines. Having this understanding can only be done from someone who has actually worked “on the floor” in that specific industry.
How did you become an expert in fine china, glassware & silverware?
The interest and knowledge of not only fine china and tableware but linen, towels and duvets/pillows started while I worked on board. I have developed an extensive list of suppliers and the possibility to deliver competitive prices with short delivery times/lead time. I have also been attending silver seminars in Germany and elsewhere to ensure I can continually offer the very best expertise and advice.
What kinds of fine china, glassware and silverware do you supply and can you explain to any potential clients how you can help them?
We supply a range of luxury products including: Chrisftofle, Ercuis & Raynaud, Robbie & Bierking, Hermes, Baccarat, Waterford/Wedgwood, Saint Louis, Puiforcat, JL Coquet, Haviland, Bernardaud and many, many more. I again, source out their requests and make sure I will meet their deadline.
Can you give some examples of requests you regularly deal with from yachts and superyachts?
Linen, towels, table linen, glassware, china and silverware are the most common requests and through refits, top ups, new builds I supply these on a regular bases. We also provide worldwide delivery; no place is too far or too difficult to deliver to.
What is the most demanding client request you’ve received?
I once delivered bathrobes, which were all manufactured and dyed a special colour, that were driven from Paris to the yacht in Italy using a private chauffeur. This was completed in only 13 days including the weekend and was delivered to the 56m motor yacht with a one hour margin before they were “throwing the lines”.
What superyachts/big clients have you worked with that you can share?
I have had the pleasure to work with some of the world’s most luxurious yachts, both motor and sailing, as well as owners’ private villas, supplying them with anything from linen to glassware. These have included: M/Y Utopia 71m, M/Y Stargate 80m, M/Y Julia, 37m, M/Y Idol, 40m, M/Y Aviva, 68m, M/Y Amevi, 80m, M/Y Tatasu, 48m, M/Y Sarah, 80m, M/Y Bystander 42m, S/Y Salperton 45m, S/Y Velshida 39m, S/Y Destination Fox Harbour 49m, S/Y Galaxia 52m and many more.
Who would be your dream client?
I find it very fulfilling to work directly with the owners to simplify the process and to be 100% certain that I will meet their requirements. I would supply all interior needs – a one-stop shop, under the same roof, starting with the yacht and moving further on to their properties on land as well.
Do you supply your products worldwide?
Yes, since day one I have supplied owners worldwide, I have delivered to the Caribbean, the Maldives, Australia, New York, Russia, France, Poland and more. This can be done quickly as well, i.e. to New Zealand it only takes five to seven days and to the Caribbean it takes only four days.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Meeting clients and crew; since I have been part of the industry for a long time it’s fun to meet my old mates and meet new crew as I love meeting new people in general and getting to know them. I also like to work directly with the owners to work on a project; I enjoy meeting with them and discussing the project to understand, making their life easier by giving an outstanding service. I feel very content when a job is done. The social part is also very enjoyable. I also happen to be proud of the products I supply and enjoy working with such beautiful and top quality products.
