Lürssen’s 136m Project Shu completes sea trials

Following the successful completion of her sea trials, Lürssen has revealed further details of its 136-metre (446-foot) superyacht Project Shu

The German shipyard and Monaco-based Imperial Yachts, who acted as broker, owner’s representative and construction supervisor during Project Shu’s secretive construction, report that the vast new build completed her trials in the North Sea in March and May 2018. She will reportedly be delivered to her new owners later in the year.

Peter Lürssen, managing partner at the shipyard, said, "Shu fulfils the requests of a very experienced owner in an exceptional way. The owner's input within all aspects of the yacht's design was clear, strong and exacting."

"Project Shu represents a major milestone for Imperial,” added Julia Stewart, Imperial Yachts’ director. “Being involved in impressive projects like these shows our capacity and experience in superyacht and mega yacht management, with regular deliveries of 80-metre projects supervised and operated by our team since 2015.”

As well as having a 136m LOA, Shu boasts a 20.5-metre beam – giving the owner and their guests huge interior spaces to enjoy. Her graceful exteriors are courtesy of designer and naval architect Espen Øino, while Mark Berryman implemented her interiors. Inside, Project Shu has spacious formal and informal areas with tranquil tones, sleek finishes and a calm, warm atmosphere.

Project Shu also features sprawling outer-deck spaces, with sea terraces and swim platforms affording easy ocean access for watersports, and cutaway bulwarks on the bridge and upper decks allowing for deluges of natural light to pour into floor-to-ceiling windows. She also has a large swimming pool positioned transversely on the main deck aft and dual helipads – one on the sun deck and another on the bridge deck – with space for even the largest of helicopters to land safely.

Project Shu is expected to be one of the 20 largest superyachts in the world upon delivery. Imperial will continue to work with the owners as operational manager.

It is understood that Lürssen is also currently working on a number of ambitious builds above 130 metres, including an as-yet-unnamed 146-metre motor yacht and an Espen Øino design named Project Thunder.
