Luxury phinisi yacht Prana launched in Indonesia

Prana, a 55-metre (180-foot) wooden superyacht, has been launched in Indonesia and is now on her maiden voyage from Bali to Labuan Bajo in Flores.

The luxury vessel, commissioned by Ibiza-based boutique hotel brand Atzaro, was hand-crafted using ancient, UNESCO-protected boatbuilding techniques perfected by the seafaring Bugis tribe. She is constructed primarily from ironwood and teak and is now available to charter in South East Asia.

Prana was built over a 21-month period in Bira, Sulawesi, with laying of the keel, hull and bulkheads, as well as superstructure, decking and interiors, completed in that time using traditional and time-honoured techniques.

The phinisi style of boat is characterised by two towering masts holding up seven sails of differing sizes. It is entirely hand built with skills honed over centuries, but despite its long and prestigious heritage, just a few experts remain in Indonesia who can see the complex process through from start to finish.

Prana features nine spacious en-suite cabins spread across four decks, as well as a number of decadent features for guests to enjoy. As well as a number of indoor and outdoor living and dining spaces, there is a dedicated yoga terrace, a water sports platform, a spa and a cinema – that can be enjoyed under the stars.

She is now available for sailing, diving and relaxation and pampering charters through the exotic straits of the Indonesian archipelago.
