New images have emerged of the much-anticipated Sailing Yacht A, showing her mainsail aloft for the first time.
Currently in build for the Russian Andrey Melnichenko, owner of Motoryacht A, Sailing Yacht A measures 142.8m with masts almost 100m high, the largest in the world and designed to withstand a category 2 hurricane.
She is a self-assisted motoryacht and, upon her delivery in 2017, will be one of the world’s largest superyachts and largest sailing yacht. The new image shows her central sail, bearing her emblem, as she undertakes sea trials near the Nobiskrug yard in Germany, where she was originally built.
S/Y A was technically launched back in 2015, with few details revealed about her build ever since. Designed by Philippe Starck, as was M/Y A, her rig and keel were created by the Dutch studio Dykstra Naval Architects, and her carbon masts by UK engineering specialists, Magma Structures.
S/Y A is powered by two diesel engines with a top speed of 21 knots, cruising speed of 16 knots, and a range of 5,320nm.
