The Global Marina Institute (GMI) and PIANC, the World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure, today signed an agreement at the London Boat Show to collaborate on enhancing best practice in marina design and development.
Mick Bettesworth, chairman of GMI, and Louis Van Schel, security-general of PIANC, signed the cooperation agreement on the stand of the Yacht Harbour Association (TYHA), an association within British Marine, in front of an audience of marina operators and managers from around the world.
The agreement will see the enhanced training of marina managers, designers and other marina professionals, in order to ensure greater alignment of the GMI Intermediate and Advanced marina management courses, and the PIANC Marina designer-training programme.
GMI will look to use PIANC guidance and expertise in the continued development of its courses.
Mick Bettesworth. Chairman of GMI commented, “The opportunity to work more closely with PIANC will enable GMI to continue to provide internationally relevant marina training and certification across the world.”
Louis Van Schel, security-general of PIANC added, “This MoU follows others signed by PIANC with the main organisations of professionals interested in the marina market. This is very important under social, economic and environmental awareness points of view. In this regard the MoU aims to enforce a truly “Educative Network Program” to enhance best practice in developing safe and sustainable infrastructure, avoiding substandard results to the final users.”
