Marina Estrella has significantly increased sales in 2013, despite the difficult market conditions, with a total of 132 yachts sold and delivered, including new and used boats, motor and sail, of lengths between 7 and 28 meters.
This represents a significant increase of 69% over the previous year. The company has achieved an aggregate group turnover of €23.3 million, which represents an increase of 55% over 2012, despite the challenging economic environment. 2013 saw Marina Estrella end a period of deep restructuring and reorganisation in line with the development of its new corporate project and growth objectives. With actions taken, the company expects to return in coming years to the business volumes prior to the crisis.
The three regions of high business activity were Cataluña, with 33% of the total revenue, followed by Levante, with 23% and the Balearics, with 16%. Portugal also had good activity, with 27%. The area with the highest business activity was Marina Estrella’s brokerage sector, with about 40% of the total unit transactions.
Marina Estrella developed an intense activity with the contribution of all its experienced team spread through its 20 offices, making a special effort in the sales of its stock of used boats and brokerage portfolio, new commercial initiatives online and offline, participation in local and international fairs, expanded services to customers and reinforcing the structure of subsidiaries and dealers.
Francisco Rivas, CEO of Marina Estrella said, "Over the past two years, we have done a tremendous job to strengthen our leadership in the distribution of yachts in Spain and Portugal. The plan we had drawn has progressed well, despite the economic difficulties, including very tight credit and weak overall demand, which prevented realizing the full potential of our business. Through the year, we incorporated to our portfolio the brands Azimut Atlantis, Azimut Magellano, Moody and Sacs, therefore we represent now nine premium brands. In addition, we continue to promote our Charter and Service areas and diversifying business, what should provide more concrete results medium term."
Following the recent incorporation of new shareholders Marina Estrella directs its strategy in three directions: continue to strengthen its team and distribution network with new additions and agreements, to maintain leadership in the market, further enhancing services to its customers with a broader, customised and elaborated offer, and branching out into new business areas and international projects, such as the management or acquisition of marinas.
Francisco Rivas continued, “The last quarter of 2013 showed signs of a slight improvement in the sector in Spain with the first shift trend in boat registrations since 2008, and although the recovery will take time to arrive we see 2014 with a little more optimism. We expect to increase our sales by about 30% due to increases in all business lines and the regions we operate, in volume boat sales, charter and maintenance services and with a new Corporate project. In the last four months of the past year, included in our new fiscal year, we sold 71 boats, in line with the objectives we have set for FY 13/14 (Sep-Aug) and 2014.”
