Marina Port Vell Barcelona reinforces commitment to sustainability

Barcelona’s Marina Port Vell, a leading Mediterranean superyacht marina, has renewed its EMAS and ISO14001 environmental certifications, reinforcing its commitment to offering quality service under strict sustainability standards. Specifically, the marina has certified its environmental responsibility and commitment, with the audit of the prestigious international certification entity LRQA.

Additionally, Marina Port Vell has certified its environmental management system with the most demanding requirements established by the European EMAS Regulation, a tool that allows evaluating, improving, and publicising of environmental behaviour. The marina’s commitment to environmentally responsible practices is in line with the ambitious Sustainability Master Plan that ties into the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) set by the United Nations.

“We have always worked to ensure the best sustainable practices in our infrastructure, but now it is also essential to invest in key ESG actions that pave the way for more future sustainable innovations for Marina Port Vell. This not only benefits our teams and the ecosystem around the marina, but also our responsibility towards Barcelona, the Mediterranean and the entire community,” said Ignacio Erroz, general manager of Marina Port Vell.

The marina's sustainability strategy is based on being an environmentally responsible company, developing a social commitment to the environment and betting on a solid governance model. All this comes from three areas of influence, the Mediterranean, Barcelona, and the team that makes up the marina. Thanks to this strategy, the marina is prepared to face the new trends that arise in the superyacht sector.

The Sustainability Master Plan also focuses on promoting conservation actions and awareness of sustainability. For example, the centralisation of the waste collection service has been promoted both for use by individuals and professionals, registering a significant environmental improvement since its implementation.

Likewise, LED lights, more efficient than conventional lamps, a hot water heating system using solar panels in The Gallery building, and a system for harnessing solar radiation through photovoltaic panels, have been installed.

Erroz continued, “We are committed to the implementation of this ESG plan in line with the corporate governance, transparency and integrity action plan that we will develop in each link of the business and which we will involve our team, the nautical community and the city.”
