MDL Marina Consultancy selected for Northfleet Harbour regeneration project

MDL Marina Consultancy, a division of MDL Marinas Group Ltd, has announced that it has been selected to carry out an outline development plan and feasibility study for a new UK marina at the derelict Northfleet Harbour site.

Cut off from the River Thames by modern flood defenses, MDL Marina Consultancy has been selected to look at the technical and commercial viability of reopening the Northfleet Harbour site as a community harbour and marina by the Ebbsfleet Development Consultancy (EDC) and the Northfleet Harbour Restoration Trust (NHRT).

MDL will provide specialist advice on the marine leisure market, marina design and financial viability.

Alex Beere, head of Consultancy and Technical Services at MDL Marinas commented, “We are very pleased to have been selected for this project. It’s an exciting opportunity, which will see us explore the viability of re-opening the harbour to develop a marina that will create value for the surrounding community, whilst bringing the heritage of the site to life.

“We use our specialist marina management experience, development skills and knowledge to offer advice and assess the viability in order to develop a realistic plan for the future development of Northfleet Harbour.”

MDL will work alongside Peter Brett Associates (PBA) and Land Water Services (LAWS), who will provide the engineering and contractor input to assess the overall technical viability and cost of construction. PBA will also provide advice on environmental considerations as the project moves forward, and analysing the wider benefits of having a marina in this location.

The project is due to begin immediately, with the PBA team scheduled to report back at the end of March.
