M/Y Kanga damaged by violent fire

The recently delivered CCN superyacht Kanga has been filmed on fire near Dubrovnik, Croatia.

The 40-metre (131-foot) vessel was tended to by emergency services on Friday morning and all 13 passengers on board were successfully evacuated, according to local reports. This included nine guests and four crewmembers.

Firefighters were still working to extinguish the fire a number of hours after they first arrived on the scene. It is understood that there was around 40 tonnes of diesel remaining in the yacht’s tanks, which prompted the local maritime authorities to order an eco-vessel to attend the scene and minimise any damage.

Videos posted on YouTube (including one by 24sata News, below) show the fire violently tearing through – and severely damaging – Kanga’s superstructure.

It is not yet clear what caused the fire, or the full extent of the damage.

Delivered in May 2018, Kanga was scheduled to attend the Cannes and Monaco yacht shows later this month.

Sold in 2015, Kanga was built to RINA standards for an American owner. She was built to accommodate up to 12 guests in five staterooms, with a crew quarters that can host up to 11 staff.
