NBA All-Star Tony Parker commissions new 35m superyacht

French basketball player and NBA All-Star Tony Parker has commissioned a 35-metre (115-foot) superyacht from Turkish shipyard AvA Yachts. The steel-and-aluminium build, the company’s second Kando 110 hull, is scheduled for delivery in 2020.

Atilla Kucudiker, chairman and founder of AvA Yachts, commented, "To have a world-famous celebrity like Mr Parker demonstrate his confidence at such an early stage of the development of the Kando series has made us immensely proud and we will deliver a yacht that will surpass all his expectations."

The shipyard has also noted that Parker hired an advisory team to scope out the firm on three separate occasions, and also employed a surveyor to inspect the first Kando hull – which was still in production at the time.

It is understood that the vessel will cost upwards of €6.6 million and boast space for up to a dozen guests across six cabins (as well as a crew of six). With an interior volume of 340GT and a 7.8-metre beam, the as-yet-unnamed Kando 110 will feature plenty of room for relaxation and entertainment. Other key features include a beach club with swimming platform.

Parker and his wife have selected a contemporary interior design for the superyacht’s four decks, picking light and airy décor to maximise the welcoming nature of the Kando series.

A technical configuration powered by twin 650hp Volvo Penta engines will allow for a maximum speed of 14 knots and a range of 6,400 nautical miles. At the time of purchase, the hull and superstructure were partway complete.

Tony Parker, now 36, currently plays with the Charlotte Hornets and is rumoured to be on a $5 million annual salary. His best-known performances came during a 17-year stint with the San Antonio Spurs, where he played in six All-Star games and was awarded the coveted MVP award at the 2007 NBA finals.

Parker also owns a 20% share in ASVEL, a basketball club in his native France, and a majority stake in women’s team Lyon Basket.
