Dutch shipyard Feadship has moved its new 73.6-metre (241-foot) project Sherpa to Rotterdam from its Royal van Lent facility in Kaag.
The vessel, formerly known as Project 815, will receive her final detailing and finishing touches ahead of sea trials in the North Sea this summer. Sherpa is the result of close collaborative work between Feadship, British design studio RWD and brokers Cecil Wright & Partners, and is the Netherlands-based yard’s first build featuring an unfaired hull and dedicated wheelhouse.
Sherpa’s name has been chosen to reflect her unrivalled carrying capacity – as well as sprawling exterior decks and storage spaces (for tenders and helicopters), she boasts a pair of massive boom cranes with a maximum reach of 20 metres. These are the largest cranes ever fitted to a Feadship.
As well as gargantuan levels of space, Sherpa has a plethora of luxury touches – such as teak decking and stainless-steel fittings – to make her a unique kind of superyacht support vessel. She will boast accommodation for up to 13 guests and 22 crewmembers.
On the outer decks are numerous opportunities for relaxing or entertaining, and an aft tender garage can be converted into a beach club via an ingenious system of folding and rotating bulwarks. She also features a lofty mast with a built-in elevator taking guests to an observation platform – this mast will make Sherpa the tallest build in Feadship’s fleet once she is delivered.
It’s expected that Sherpa will be able to climb to a top speed of 15.7 knots and, at a speed of 13 knots, she will have a cruising range of 5,200 nautical miles. Power is drawn from twin MTU 16V4000 M53R engines.
Feadship is also currently working on a new Michael Leach Design-styled flagship – the 110-metre Project 1007.
