One of the world’s most secretive new build sailing superyacht projects, and one of the world’s largest, has just become visible at its construction shipyard in Kiel, Germany.
Project No. 787, named ‘White Pearl’, has been in build at the Nobiskrug facility, which is owned by Privinvest, for the last three years, during which builders have kept fairly quiet about the extremely confidential project.
Expected to measure in at a little over 140 metres, little is known about the superyacht project, which is reported to have a beam of around 24 metres, and a draft of around 8m. Despite recent sightings, secrecy surrounding the project is still firmly in place with this the first official announcement from Nobiskrug regarding her launch.
What is known for sure is that construction began on White Pearl in March 2012; she features metal construction rather than the carbon fibre that is commonly used in the sailing yacht sector. This is not to say that the project will be a simple build, however, considering she is a sailing yacht with what will be an enormous sailplan and a heavier load.
It is believed that White Pearl will conduct sea trials this year, as she is shortly set to touch the water for the first time. This will complete the commissioning phase before the last fitting-out stage begins.
Holger Kahl, managing director of Nobiskrug said, “The launching is the most symbolic milestone of any superyacht’s construction. We are just a step away from welcoming White Pearl, the next ‘gem’, to our fleet of superyachts for the 22nd century.”
When complete, she will be one of the largest sailing superyachts in the world, and the biggest hull ever built by Nobiskrug, however, two other large sailing yachts are also in build at the time of this story; Solar, a 108m at Oceanco, and Dream Symphony in Turkey, set to measure 141m LOA.
