Northrop & Johnson opens New York City office

Northrop & Johnson, yacht sale and charter brokers, has announced the opening of a new sales office in New York City, New York.

The new office, located just off of New York’s renowned luxury shopping street, Fifth Avenue, follows the first Manhattan Northrop & Johnson office, which opened in Lower Manhattan in 1949.

Cleverly positioned in one of the city’s most exclusive neighbourhoods, the opening of the new office will ensure that the brokerage needs of the ultra high net worth individuals in New York City and the greater New York area are catered to.

Joining the Northrop & Johnson team as sales broker and head of the New York office is Mathias Chouraki, who grew up sailing in Normandy, France, where he spent most of his summers windsurfing or teaching at the local sailing school.

Chouraki is a welcome addition to the Northrop & Johnson team with his years of first-hand industry experience; shortly after moving to New York, he quickly realised the lack of opportunity for locals to charter boats, subsequently starting his own charter company in the city. The business quickly grew from one boat to a fleet of more than 15 across New York City and Long Island.

Alongside his business partners, Chouraki went on to develop the related franchises of his charter and management company to more than 35 locations all over the world. The relationships he established during this journey helped him to make the transition from charter to sales broker, where he became full-time after selling his company in 2008.

Mathias maintains his USCG’s captain license and travels frequently to the South of France and Italy to source luxury yachts on behalf of his clients. His expertise and intuition in yacht brokerage make him an invaluable asset to any deal.
