Ocea unveils plans for new project Nemo 50 Ice

French shipyard Ocea has revealed details of its latest project, the Nemo 50 Ice. The all-aluminium superyacht is 50 metres (164 feet) in length and has been designed to safely and expertly navigate the treacherous waters around Antarctica.

The new project, designed in partnership with Aldo Marina, with exteriors from Fulvio de Simoni, features a number of high-end technical details so that it can comfortably – and luxuriously – withstand harsh sea conditions and temperatures.

Aboard the Nemo 50 Ice is a specialised technical area forward of the raised deck which houses hiking equipment. The decking in this area is less than a metre from sea level, which allows for rapid transfer between vessel and tender.

Nemo 50 Ice’s tenders are rigid-hulled inflatable boats, and dedicated handling equipment can quickly launch and recover landing crafts. Her davits are the very same used aboard military vessels produced by Ocea.

To keep guests comfortable during long stays, there is vast amounts of space afforded by a wide beam. The owner’s apartment boasts a full-width design and covers the fore section of the main deck – as well as a decadent suite, there is a private lounge and bathroom with space for a sauna. As well as accommodating up to 10 guests, the Nemo 50 Ice has enough space for up to 10 crewmembers.

The crew quarters have direct access to the workshop and control room thanks to a central corridor on the lower deck. The engine room features twin CAT C32 1450hp engines for a top speed of 16 knots; at a cruising speed of 10 knots she boasts a range of 5,000 nautical miles. Nemo 50 Ice’s shafts are integrated into special structural skegs for extra protection, together with the propellers and rudders, in case of icebergs or other submerged masses.
