Olivier van Meer announces delivery of superyacht Spirit of Venice

Designer Olivier van Meer has confirmed his latest 27.32-metre (89-foot) project, Spirit of Venice, was delivered last month.

The project began in March 2015, with a brief for a classically styled cruiser featuring a folding swim platform and a spacious deck saloon. 

The gaff-rigged sailing yacht was built in-line with the owner’s desire to sail long distances single handedly. The choice of electric furling sails allows the gaff rig to be easily controlled from the cockpit.

Dijkstra Metaalbewerking in Harlingen was selected to build the reinforced aluminium hull before the project was moved to VMG Yachtbuilders for the installation of the composite deck, cockpit and superstructure.

Other structural features include a six-metre beam and a maximum draught of 4.4 metres, which can be reduced to 2.1 metres for cruising in shallow waters.

UK-based designer Pieter Letter is responsible for the superyacht’s interior styling, opting for a mix of classical and playful elements with generous bronze and brass detailing.

Accommodation allows for up to seven guests split between three cabins, as well as an additional Pullman berth in the lower saloon.

Spirit of Venice’s power will come from a 202hp Volvo Penta D7 engine drawing on a total fuel capacity of 3,160 litres.
