OTAM launches first SD35 custom superyacht ‘Gipsy’

OTAM has launched its first superyacht at its shipyard in Genoa, calling the 35m motor yacht ‘Gipsy’.

Known as a builder of luxury high-speed craft up to 24m, the 35m motor yacht is the yard’s first superyacht, and will make up part of the brand’s new Custom Range.

According to a recent statement from the builder, the new OTAM SD35 offers “a unique amount of living space on board”, with her displacement of 295GT offering “superior volumes for the 300GT category”.

She has been completed by OTAM in aluminium construction, with her interior and exterior design undertaken by Tommaso Spadolini. The designer worked in close collaboration with the client in order to create a vessel that reflects his personal tastes, both in interior layout and exterior lines.

The main deck is dedicated to her guest’s daily activities, which will include leisure, business and corporate entertainment. Features here include a main salon with movie theatre and full-beam dining area that spans almost 40 sqm. The main deck also houses the service areas, including a fully-furnished galley and 25m pantry with separate access for the crew.

Gipsy offers four VIP cabins with twin and double beds and relative en-suite baths located on the lower deck in an area connected by a hallway to the crew’s quarters. Further day heads are also available on each deck to save guests having to return to their cabins.

Crew quarters have been carefully considered throughout to allow for high service standards without infringement on owner and guest privacy. The crew quarter on the lower deck includes four cabins and washrooms, as well as the laundry and store rooms.

Alongside the wheelhouse, the owner’s suite is located on the upper deck, offering what OTAM brands to be “exclusive views and complete privacy” at the owner’s request. Designed in an apartment-style, the suite leads out onto a private aft deck that is fitted with sunbeds and an intimate dining area.

Matteo Belardinelli, sales and communication manager at the shipyard, commented on the level of customisation that was involved in the project. He said, “The owner’s arrangement of the spaces on board is slightly off the beaten track compared to other yachts in this size range. Through this flexibility he was able to create a custom layout that is suited to his needs. The shipyard was able to deliver a superb product, and as a result of the client’s ambition, we are now even more excited about what is possible in our future projects.”

The OTAM SD35 has been constructed with a “very efficient semi-displacement hull” that has been developed by the yard’s experienced engineering teams in collaboration with their long-standing partner naval architect, Umberto Tagliavini. As such, Gipsy is able to reach a top speed of 20 knots, achieving a range of 2,000nm at 11 knots.

As part of her design, Gipsy has a limited draft with the hull below the waterline featuring semi-tunnels that make her a versatile vessel for world cruising.

Gipsy will soon be delivered to her Italian owner following her upcoming sea trials and outfitting, ready for the summer cruising season. She will then be presented to the public at the 2016 Monaco Yacht Show in September.
