Oyster Yachts collaborates with Reichel/Pugh on Project Alpha

British yard Oyster Yachts has teamed up with design studio Reichel/Pugh for its latest sailing yacht, the 33.53-metre (110-foot) Project Alpha.

The yacht has been developed for a repeat client who prefers to fly to his yacht rather than cruise long distances.

Discussing the difference between Project Alpha and the yard’s in-build Oyster 118 flagship, Oyster Yachts CEO David Tydeman commented, “The choice is perhaps akin to a decision about whether to use the Range Rover [Oyster 118] or the Aston Martin [Project Alpha]. One is definitely fun for the blast to the golf club, but the other you’d choose for the longer drive up to the Scottish Highlands.”

After attracting significant interest in its new construction, Oyster is considering investing in female moulding. This is a tried and tested approach for the yard; it did the same to sell the second Oyster 118 yacht before the first hull had been completed, as the ability to build in tandem reduces lead times.

Project Alpha can accommodate up to eight guests across four en-suite staterooms, including a full-beam master suite in the bow, while the crew quarters allows for a total of six staff. Two coachroof designs have been created, with a choice between a wedge deck and a more traditional Oyster-style deck.

Other superyacht projects currently under development at the British yard include the 27.12-metre (89-foot) Oyster 895.
