Palmawatch announces busiest refit and repair season to date

Palmawatch S.L, a yacht service company based in Palma de Mallorca, has announced that they are close to finishing one of the most active refit seasons the company has ever seen, working from their base inside the island’s STP shipyard.

Gearing up for another intense period of activity as the Med season draws to a close, the 2014 - 2015 period has seen work completed on a range of mid-sized yachts, including repairs to the engine and electrics aboard a Jongert 2200, and complete rig and winch servicing aboard an Oyster 625, among other works.

Speaking exclusively to Yachting Pages, Pierre Oberon, managing director of Palmawatch said, “We define our seasons from September to the following August, as we work mostly over the winter. The bigger projects usually start in the fall and at the end of the spring.

“Over the last refit period - September 2014 to August 2015 - we serviced 151 yachts, which represented a total of 1,013 work orders; this is an increase of around 12% over and above the previous season. This year, around mid-September, we will be finishing a project on a Jongert 21s. That will signal the end of our 14/15 season, and after that, we will be focusing on the projects for the coming refit period.”

As the Preferred Service Partner for UK-based yacht builder, Oyster Yachts, Palmawatch also shared that they have carried out a service aboard a 54 Oyster during this period, plus they managed a two-month project on a Southern Winds 100, and assisted Dutch shipyard Jongert with engineering work on a Jongert 40m.

Now entering into the closing months of the Med season, Palmawatch shared that they are soon expecting to carry out refit works on a Nordia 57 and Astondoa 70' as part of their 2015 - 2016 period, as well as awaiting one refit to be shortly confirmed on a Jongert 2200s.

Pierre commented, “In order to meet the increased workload, we are hiring new qualified personnel, including an experience marine-mechanical engineer, an admin and a finance director, and also personnel for our gardienage fleet as we are currently looking after over 20 boats for their owners.

“We are expecting a very busy time in October and November with a good number of yachts being hauled out, in order to be prepared for the annual ‘milk-run’ across the Atlantic.”

Partnering with OceanAir and Cantalupi, Palmawatch will be rearranging their showroom within the STP yard to exhibit their products, including a selection of carbon gangways and underwater lights.
