Palumbo Superyachts’ latest project makes significant construction progress

Italy-based shipyard Palumbo Superyachts has revealed that the hull of its 49.5-metre (162-foot) new build M/Y project – the Columbus S50 – is now 60% complete.

Built from an aluminium hull and superstructure in Ancona, the yacht is on track to have its hull and superstructure joined in February 2019, with delivery expected in summer 2020. She is scheduled to make a worldwide debut at the 2020 Monaco Yacht Show.

Further to the announcement, the yard released new renderings of the yacht, which was sold in April last year. Italian yacht designer Luca Dini is responsible for her exterior and interior design.

The new model, commissioned by a repeat client, features a vertical bow to increase the amount of interior space available. The saloon has been designed to allow for as much natural light as possible, while the lowered gunwhales ensure countless views out to sea.

The shipyard previously stated, “The exterior design expresses dynamism, while maintaining well-balanced proportions, conveying an original style without being over-the-top and ensuring that its aesthetic will never go out of fashion.”

A pair of 2,000hp MTU engines will allow for a top speed of 20 knots and cruising speed of 15 knots – at long-haul range.

Columbus S50 will house up to 11 guests across five cabins, while the staff accommodation is suitable for up to 11 crew members.

Further details of the new build are yet to be disclosed, with the exact layout to be revealed. The rendering gives hints that she will include a Jacuzzi on the foredeck and spacious sky lounge.

Other projects currently in progress at the Italian shipyard include the ISA Alloy 43, another Luca Dini design, due to launch in 2019.
