Pendennis’ Apprenticeship Scheme wins Large Employer of the Year

The majority of trainees on the Pendennis Apprenticeship scheme have been recruited as permanent employees following their course, expanding the talent pool in all aspects of the business including administration, paint, fabrication, engineering, exterior outfit and interior finishing departments, this is being recognised with a number of awards.

Several apprentices have been promoted through the business, including some that now hold senior positions within the company.

The Pendennis scheme not only trains young people in all aspects of the superyacht industry, but also builds strong ties with the local area, with apprentices tackling many community projects as part of their skill development. Pendennis’ fabrication apprentices have recently completed renovations work to balcony railings in the Seven Stars pub in Falmouth, working alongside A&P, Falmouth, to renovate steelwork.

Now in the 13th year, the Pendennis Apprenticeship scheme has been rewarded with numerous accolades over the years. In recognition of its high standards Pendennis has announced that they have been presented with the ‘Large Employer of the Year’ Award for the South West, and will now go on to represent the region in the National Awards. The National Apprenticeship service organises these annual awards to celebrate the success of apprenticeship schemes throughout the UK.

Tristan Jones, joinery manager, who trained through the Pendennis Apprenticeship scheme, was also presented with a 'Highly Commended' award after being shortlisted as a finalist in the City & Guilds Apprenticeship Champion of the Year, South West.

Jill Carr, director of HR and apprenticeship manager, was delighted at this recognition and commented, “Fourteen new apprentices have just started the scheme. With such a strong heritage of success supporting them, these young men and women are sure to have a bright future in the superyacht industry.”
