Pendennis delivers second Truly Classic 128 Vijonara

Pendennis Shipyard has delivered the second hull in its Hoek-designed Truly Classic 128 series to her new owners, following an 18-month build in Falmouth, England.

The 38.8-metre (128-foot) sloop-rigged sailing yacht, named Vijonara, was built from aluminium for a knowledgeable client with extensive sailing experience.

“This project in particular has been a fantastic experience from start to finish”, commented designer, Andre Hoek. “Based on a proven hull specification, the owners had a distinct vision for her customisation to suit their lifestyle, and she has been optimised extensively for performance.”

Part of these customisations include the addition of a new 2.85m bowsprit, which, paying homage to vintage sailing yachts of years gone by, allows Vijinara to fly a downwind A-symmetric spinnaker or a code sail.

Her deck layout has also undergone customisation, to relocate her helm position in front of the aft deckhouse, close to the centre cockpit to allow the helmsman to stay in contact with the guests. As such, her aft cockpit has become the owner’s cockpit, allowing for increased privacy and extending the aft-owner’s cabin and deckhouse.

A central steering wheel with two adjacent-side consoles are flanked by winches and hydraulics for performance sailing by a small crew. Hoek continued, “The stainless-steel steering pedestal is a piece of art in its own right, with a classic nighthouse housing the compass encircled by a double-spoked wheel with an oval-shaped rim.”

In a recent release, Pendennis said, “The owners played an intrinsic part in the design of the yacht’s interior, and in partnership with Hoek, created a comfortable layout suitable for family cruising.

“An open-plan owner’s suite, designed for relaxation and privacy, includes his-and-hers bathrooms, a private seating area and a study, and the unique addition of an oculus with its own underwater lighting through which the owners can view the underwater world by both day and night.”

Also on board is a large saloon with a TV and library, providing a separate social area to the main dining suite, and a gym, which can be transformed into a spare cabin if needed.

Vijonara features luxurious interior styling, with Sapele Mahogany flat panelling, Italian Walnut flooring and traditional detailing throughout. Interior and exterior joinery was undertaken by Ruiter Quality Interiors and Pendennis, while the owners collaborated with Hermès on bespoke interior fittings, including a desk area, sofas, club seats, oculus-mounted table, and world map made of leather marquetry.

Mike Carr, managing director of Pendennis, said, “Vijonara will be a fitting complement to the yard’s 30th anniversary celebrations at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show in September.”
