Peters & May is back supporting the transatlantic race 2015

Southampton-based global boat transporter Peters & May has shown its continued support for the Transatlantic Race 2015 by becoming the Official Logistics Partner in 2015.

The Transatlantic Race 2015, part of the Atlantic Ocean Racing Series, will be one of the most talked about events of the season due to unprecedented participation this year. Over 50 yachts have already registered, ranging from venerable classics to newly-launched maxis, creating one of the largest and most diverse fleets ever to participate in the event, which takes place between June and July.

The company’s role will be to facilitate competitors’ yacht shipments before and after the race, as well as providing shipping solutions for the transportation of spares, sails etc. Peters & May will work with an international field of boats from 40 feet in length to superyachts, as they chart the course from Newport, Rhode Island to the finishing line over 2,800 miles away at Lizard Point, Cornwall.

Craig Stanbury, operations director - racing division at Peters & May commented, “We have always been passionate about this event and it’s extremely rewarding to be announced as the official logistics partner again, following a previous successful partnership with the organising committee in 2011. Many of our clients are taking part in the race so we are delighted to be able to support them, and the industry as a whole, in helping to create a world class event.”

The TR 2015 Organising Committee, comprising the Royal Yacht Squadron and New York Yacht Club in association with the Royal Ocean Racing Club and Storm Trysail Club, set the highest standards for this showcase race.

Patricia Young of the New York Yacht Club said, “We’re delighted to again welcome Peters & May to the TR 2015 team this year after an incredibly successful race in 2011. Their in-depth knowledge of vessels and experience in the industry as a whole put them in a position to look after our competitors extremely well.”

The course record was established in the TR 2011 by George David’s Rambler 100. His record will be challenged this year by a high-level fleet including his third Rambler – the recently launched 88-footer - and Jim and Kristy Clark’s Hodgdon Yachts-built Comanche. Peters & May proudly shipped Comanche to Sydney for the start of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Race late in 2014 and she is currently being shipped back to the East Coast of the US.

Peters & May’s specialist Racing Logistics Department is headquartered in its Southampton, UK Head Office, with additional staff stationed in its global offices around the world. The team is highly experienced in logistics and understands the needs of owners with a variety of goals.
