Philippe Briand reveals unique 30m sailing yacht concept

French designer, Philippe Briand has revealed a new concept design for a 30m carbon-fibre sloop called Egoist.

Developed for owners who want to get away from it all, the sloop has been designed with just one expansive master cabin to reduce disturbances from large crew and guests. Also on board she houses a spacious salon and accommodation for up to two crew members.

Briand explained, “At a time when many yachts are designed to satisfy the masses – from charter guests to the potential buyer the artistic direction can become misguided and the originality of the design diluted. The outcome is that the essence of the yacht being built is in danger of getting lost. Egoist is the antidote to this; she has been designed purely to satisfy the needs and enjoyment of the owner.

“The beauty of the project is that it’s for short cruising and is extremely comfortable for a couple, so there is only one huge owner suite forward of the mast.”

Egoist has been conceived as a fully customisable project that Briand believes can be built in less than two years. He said, “One potential builder, Hodgdon Yachts, built the 30m Comanche in less than 10 months.”

Egoist is the latest from the French designer, whose other projects currently include a new 28m series yacht and three bespoke yachts ranging from 55 to 90m in length.
