Professional Yachting Association joins not-for-profit organisation Clear Ocean Pact

Professional Yachting Association (PYA) has pledged its commitment to not-for-profit initiative Clear Ocean Pact, which strives to inspire the superyacht industry to reduce its dependency on single-use plastic.

Launched in November last year, Clear Ocean Pact aims to raise awareness, explore innovative solutions to stop micro-plastic waste and provide viable alternatives to be used in yacht operations around the globe.

The PYA will encourage an expanding community of superyacht owners, yachting organisations and businesses to reduce the use of plastics through Clear Ocean Pact’s five pledges.

1.            To avoid any use of plastic bottled drinking water on board

2.            To filter and safely dispose of all washing machine microplastic waste

3.            To eliminate the use of all single-use plastic items with readily available alternatives, starting with the items due to be banned by the EU in 2021 (plastic cotton buds, cutlery, plates, straws, drink-stirrers and balloon sticks)

4.            To reduce the use of single-use plastic toiletries on board

5.            To actively source provisions with low single-use plastic footprint packaging

Speaking about its commitment to the initiative, PYA stated, “We are delighted to support the initiative of the Clear Ocean Pact and will encourage our members to pledge their support to allow continued enjoyment of clean and protected oceans for years to come.”
