Project Solar completes sea trials in the Netherlands

Heading for the title of largest sailing yacht in the world, Oceanco’s 105m sailing yacht Project Solar has completed sea trials in Alblasserdam over the weekend.

Designed by Nuvolari Lenard, and with naval architecture by Dykstra, Project Solar, know as Y712, has a three-rotating mast structure similar to that of the Maltese Falcon. She is expected for delivery within the first quarter of this year.

Launched in 2016, she has a spa pool aft of her main deck, and a large hot tub on her upper deck. Also on board are two tenders on the bow and a fold-down platform aft, which likely opens out to reveal a beach club.

On board, Project Solar accommodates up to 12 guests across six cabins. She boasts a total interior volume of 2,700GT.

With a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, she will be powered by twin Caterpillar engines, giving her a maximum speed of 17.5knots.

Also under construction at the Oceanco facility in Alblasserdam is the highly confidential 88m Y715 which has also been spotted returning from sea trials this week; the 90m Y717 with reflective glass superstructure; and the 110m Project Jubilee, which will become the shipyard’s largest to date once delivered to her owner in 2017.
