The Proteksan Turquoise shipyard of Istanbul, Turkey, has announced the sudden death of its co-founder, Hayati Kamhi, aged 62.
According to a release by Owen Marine Marketing, Mr Kamhi passed away unexpectedly on Monday June 4. The police are treating Mr Kamhi’s death as suicide, say reports.
Kamhi joined forces with fellow superyacht impresario Mehmet Karabeyoglu 18 years ago to form what is today Turkey's leading builder of luxury superyachts.
The yard went on to produce Turkey’s first superyacht, the 50m Turquoise, which launched to international acclaim around 13 years ago.
The Proteksan Turquoise yard is today ranked as one of the Top 10 shipyards in the world.
The funeral for Mr Kamhi takes place today (June 6) at Neve Shalom Synagogue at 12pm. The synagogue’s address is Buyuk Hendek Cad. No:39 Sishane / İstanbul.
Recent big events for the shipyard include its pending launch of the 72.64-metre super-yacht, christened “Vicky”. Designed by H2 Yacht Design, the vessel has an aluminium hull and superstructure.
She is powered by a pair of Caterpillar engines which offer it a maximum speed of 17 knots, a cruising speed of 15 knots, and a range of 7,000 nautical miles at 12 knots.
Her interior facilities include six cabins including a full beam master suite on her bridge deck and five guest cabins on the main deck.
Vicky is due to be delivered by mid-2012.
