The remodeled sailing yacht M5, formally named Mirabella V, set sail this week from Pendennis shipyard in Falmouth and is the largest single-masted ship ever launched.

The sailing yacht, which left Pendennis Shipyard after a two-year refit, features the largest sail in the world and a mast nearly twice the height of Nelson’s Column.

Rocka Romcke, captain of the M5 said, “Working together with all of our key project partners, we have given M5 a new lease of life and prepared her for her next adventure.”

Since then, the project scope has grown extensively with the owners team working tirelessly to remodel and modernise the icon of the superyacht industry.

The M5 now has a beautiful sleek exterior profile, straight from the drawing boards of her original designer, Ron Holland Design.

“This ground breaking sailing yacht has gained a new life, incorporating her new owners personal detailing requirements as well as new engines, genets, and many related systems.

“The intention is to ensure M5 can remain in world voyaging condition for the foreseeable future.”

The project saw new lightweight carbon rigging installed. Designed and manufactured by Carbo-Link with OYS making the fittings, the 34 new carbon fibre stays and titanium fittings with built-in dynamic fibre optics have decreased the weight of the rig by 18 tonnes. 

The record-breaking superyacht, has a mast extension of 88.5 metres above the waterline, meaning the M5 is only able to pass under a handful of bridges in the world.
