Ricky Smith unveils “progressive” 80m superyacht concept Epoch

Brisbane-based studio Ricky Smith Designs has unveiled forward-thinking superyacht concept Epoch, an 80-metre (262-foot) vessel with “progressive” and “eye-catching” elements that spans across five luxurious decks.

Epoch boasts naval architecture from Dr. Andrew Baglin and Stuart Friezer, and will be constructed with an all-aluminium hull and superstructure. According to Ricky Smith himself, the superyacht’s “high-performance hull [would give an] advanced seakeeping stability”.

The design of Epoch, a follow up to the convention-shunning Era 80, is somewhat more traditional but still includes a number of interest-piquing details throughout. The striking bow silhouette and generous glazing (in the form of multiple panoramic windows) ensure the exterior is bold and unique.

Epoch’s accommodation is design for up to 20 guests split across 10 staterooms, including two VIP suites and a private owner’s penthouse with walkaround exercise deck enveloped by “curtain glass” which offers 360-degree vistas. Crew quarters can house a staff of up to 24 in 12 cabins.

Other deluxe details include a panoramic entertainment lounge, which includes a theatre, bistro cocktail bar and butlers’ kitchen. The aforementioned penthouse would also include a cocktail bar and private dining facilities, and is directly linked to the helipad above and to the lower-deck beach club (which takes advantage of the full 13-metre beam) thanks to a central elevator.

Smith added that Epoch’s design places socialising and dining at the forefront, with facilities for each on every deck.

Although technical specifications remain under wraps, Epoch is believed to be capable of a 25-knot top speed.
