Sanlorenzo unveils designs for new crossover motor yacht SX72

Italian yard Sanlorenzo has shared its design for new 23.25-metre (76-foot) motor yacht SX72, the latest in its crossover SX series following the launch of the third SX88 in March.

The series merges elements from smaller explorer yachts and bigger vessels with a flybridge to create a unique hybrid. Although the crossover SX yachts bear similarities to other boats from the yard, it also features original exteriors by Zuccon International Project in collaboration with Italian architecture and design firm Studio Lissoni of Milan.

The firm’s Piero Lissoni helped create a number of eye-catching features aboard the SX72. The smaller vessel is similar in appearance to the yard’s flagship SX88, and they both share an open loft design, but certain elements – such as the grand central staircase, described as “a piece of art” by Sanlorenzo CEO Massimo Perotti – add a fresh dimension to the interiors.

A number of interior options will be available to owners, including one featuring an enclosed galley if required. A stand-out constant is the sprawling, open-plan main deck – another of Lissoni’s concepts – which offers a continuous living area with standalone furnishings and the aforementioned central staircase. This space takes full advantage of the 6.6-metre (22-foot) beam.

The wheelhouse is located on the top deck, while the lower deck boasts an additional lounge (or further accommodation depending on layout configurations) and four main cabins. The owner’s suite sits amidships, with a VIP suite situated forwards and two more guest cabins towards the starboard side.

She will include an open aft deck, which features an area that can either store toys or act as an additional living space just centimetres from the water. There is also an exterior forward sundeck and forward flybridge with permanent windshield (and optional removable Strataglass panels in case of inclement conditions), as well as a top-deck dining/sitting area. Her décor will include delicate, neutral tones by Lissoni.

Power comes from two Volvo Penta IPS 1050 engines, for a 22-knot top speed and a cruising speed of 20 knots. Underwater lines are by American designer Lou Bodega, and she benefits from a composite build with carbon superstructure.

Lissoni’s role within Sanlorenzo is reportedly set to expand in the near future – the architect has been pushing boundaries and testing the limits of yacht design with his ideas but given that Sanlorenzo has sold 13 SX88 models since 2017, it is perhaps unsurprising to see him given more responsibility. As well as taking on branding duties at Sanlorenzo, Lissoni will assist in the redesign of production sites in La Spezia and Ameglia.

The SX72 is currently under construction and will be presented at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September.

Sanlorenzo has been busy in recent months – the yard has recently unveiled its new SL102 planing motor yacht and launched its fourth 460 EXP superyacht and 500 EXP explorer yacht.
