SCIBS exhibitors confident of a strong year for show

Confidence is on the rise among those in the marine industry export market, ahead of the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS), organisers say.

According to a statement from the show’s organisers, many exhibitors believe SCIBS to be a ‘key indicator of the state of the marine industry and consumer sentiment.’ This year’s 28th annual event will take place from 19th May until 22nd May.

Johan Hasser, general manager at SCIBS, commented, “Our exhibitors tell us SCIBS is a litmus test of things to come for the rest of the year, particularly exporters who have a global perspective of economic factors and market trends.

“The feeling across the board is that our exhibitors are extremely optimistic for this year’s show. With the low Australian dollar already proving to have a positive effect on exports, it’s expected that this will reflect favourably on sales results, specifically with Australian manufacturers.”

Hasser also explained how the changes to the show’s programme and layout for 2016 would appeal to both exhibitors and visitors. He said, “This year we have introduced two new precincts – Supercar Street, with stunning automotive displays, and The Boat Yard, a themed section dedicated to trailer-able and sports boats. Added to this, there will be all-day-family-friendly entertainment, a kids zone and on-water trials for potential buyers.”

Luke Durman, co-founder and director of Elandra Yachts, revealed that he was very optimistic ahead of SCIBS, “All the indicators are there for a great show. We will have several international buyers coming to Sanctuary Cove to see the new 53 model, as well as plans for bigger models on the drawing board.

“The Aussie dollar has made our boats more competitive in the US market, where they’re seen as great value for what is essentially a superyacht calibre craft.”
