'Sea Scooper' Man-Overboard Safety System Gets NATO Stock Number

SOS Marine’s Sea Scoopa and the Sea Scoopa stretcher products have been allocated NATO Stock Numbers by the Royal Australian Navy.

A NATO Stock Number, or National Stock Number (NSN) as it is known in the US, is a 13-digit numeric code for 'standardised material items of supply' in all treaty countries.

Australia is among the non-NATO countries which use the NSN program.

SOS Marine designs specialised lifejackets and safety equipment for the armed forces, police and emergency services, and supplies nine naval forces worldwide with safety equipment.

The company’s Sea Scoopa is a compact man-overboard recovery system designed for saving lives at sea while minimising harm to both the rescuer and the victim.

The rescue system is multi-purpose to reduce the risk of rescuer back injury. It also reduces the threat to the person overboard from hazards which increase chances of drowning, like limb entrapment in large apertures.

The design also incorporates a stretcher to aid movement of the victim onboard the vessel.

The Sea Scoopa was designed by Professor Bob Wright, an Intensive Care Medicine Specialist, with over 40 years of ocean experience.
