A new specialist shipyard, Ocean Shipyard Limited, has opened in Southampton, UK. It builds Southerly Yachts and Bluewater Catamarans.

Ocean Shipyard is led by Steve Edwards, formerly the general manager of the Discovery Shipyard, who is a veteran of British boatbuilding with over 36 years’ experience at Aston Martin and within the superyacht industry.

The shipyard has a strong team of experienced yacht builders, joiners, shipwrights, electricians and engineers. Between them they have many years of experience in the marine industry, building Discovery, Southerly, Bluewater and other quality yachts.

The Ocean Shipyard team are brought together by the shared ambition to hand-build high-quality Southerly and Bluewater Yachts.

Edwards said, “Werner Schnabele, the owner of the Southerly, Discovery and Bluewater brands, is strongly supporting Ocean Shipyard which has full access to the IP and tooling to build these yachts.”

Ocean Shipyard’s facilities enable it to offer refits and fit out new power and sailing vessels up to 18.2 metres (60 feet). With its own on-site joinery department and an impressive five Axis CNC machine with a rotating head, the yard can provide quality joinery services to a wide range of customers in addition to supporting internal yacht building activities.

Ocean Shipyard has some available build slots commencing second half of 2022 and in 2023. The lead time for a new build is approximately 7 to 12 months depending on the model selected.
