Spirit Yachts announces P70 motor yacht

British yard Spirit Yachts has announced that it is building a 21.7-metre (71-foot) motor yacht at its headquarters in Suffolk.

Scheduled to launch in the coming months, the P70 classic motor yacht has been commissioned by a “knowledgeable owner” and was designed by the yard’s head designer Sean McMillan.

An owner-operated yacht, she will be able to cruise 1,000 nautical miles at 18 knots – this will allow the owner to cross the North Sea without having to refuel.

According to Spirit Yachts, the construction of the P70 has followed the same core processes as the yard’s sailing yacht hulls. The owner, however, has stipulated the layout.

Following their requests, the master cabin is situated at a separate end of the boat to the guest accommodation, while the dining saloon will be open plan and located beside the galley, as there will be no crew on board.

The wheelhouse is placed midships on the main deck, leading into the main saloon. It will be kitted out with a TV, bar and panoramic views from the forward windows. Meanwhile, the accommodation and living area will sit on the lower deck.

The en-suite owner’s cabin is positioned forward and boasts a bath and single en-suite cabin that can easily double as an office. Elsewhere, the yacht will also feature a hydraulic crane capable of deploying a 3.7-metre RIB.

Power comes from Twin MAN i6 800hp engines, which allow for a cruising speed of 18 knots and a top speed of 25 knots.

Nigel Stuart, Spirit Yachts managing director, explained the yard is seeing a surge in demand for motor yachts.

“Spirit Yachts is known for its custom sailing yachts, but we are seeing increasing demand for motor yachts tailored to suit an owner’s cruising plans,” he said.

“We are renowned for our design style, build quality and engineering expertise, so we know we can successfully deliver world-class motor yachts alongside our portfolio of sailing yachts.”

Other yacht projects underway at the yard include the 33.9-metre (111-foot) Spirit 111 sailing superyacht.
