Sunseeker unveils new superyacht concept Project 8X

British yacht builder Sunseeker International has announced a new superyacht concept, named Project 8X, at the Boot Düsseldorf boat show.

The yard said the yacht “showcases the fresh design direction of Sunseeker’s next generation of larger models”, though the exact length of the yacht has not yet been revealed.

Channelling the “feel of a true superyacht”, Project 8X will be “fundamentally different from the current Sunseeker range.

The news follows the announcement that Sunseeker has partnered with Icon Yachts on its first metal-built superyacht, the Sunseeker 161, which is scheduled to launch in early 2021.

Launching in 2020, Project 8X will boast “striking lines” and an open-plan interior.

Among the yacht’s key features is its beach club which, according to the yard, will be “four times” the size of a traditional platform design to become a “highly specified entertainment area of its own”. The beach club is equipped with a built-in drawer barbecue, “self-levelling step passerelle” and optional hydraulic bathing platform.

Project 8X will provide extensive storage for a tender and toys, including a Williams 460 SportJet, jet ski and Sea Bob. These will be deployed and retrieved with an integrated tender crane.

The foredeck will boast a 140-inch cinema screen, laser projector and surround sound for “evening entertainment under the stars”.

Her interior décor is described by the yard as combining “traditional elegancy with contemporary updates” and oozing “sleek simplicity and sophistication”.

Accommodation is for up to eight guests split between an owner’s full-beam master, forward VIP and two twin aft cabins that can convert into doubles. The crew quarters will house a maximum of five staff and includes a kitchenette, crew mess and en-suite.

Flexibility in accommodation layout is available, depending on the intended use of the yacht.

Sunseeker sales director Sean Robertson said the new model “will dictate this sector for years to come”.

He added, “Sunseeker prides itself on producing the world’s finest luxury performance motor yachts and the design and engineering behind Project 8X epitomises our next generation of larger models.

“Whilst each new model is still quintessentially and unmistakeably a Sunseeker, this exciting new yacht will, without doubt, reinvent the market when it launches next year.”
