Sydney International Boat Show 2012 and 2013

Darling Harbour is set to welcome Australia’s boating industry from 2nd to 6th August 2012, with the staging of the 45th annual Sydney International Boat Show.

More than 300 exhibitors will present at the Show organised by the Boating Industry Association (BIA) of NSW, the Sydney International Boat Show has firmly established itself as one of the primary events on the harbour city’s annual events calendar.

Domenic Genua, marketing and event manager for the BIA, said that visitor feedback had clearly shown that those attending the show expected to be entertained and educated. “Consequently we have endeavoured to present an array of attractions and activities that will ruin throughout the event, with various ‘shows within the show’ that really will find appeal for all,” he explained.

Some of the attractions include the Fashion Extravaganza; the outstanding MyBoatingLife Entertainment Precinct and the popular Walk of Fame displaying many historic vessels with a close bond to Sydney Harbour.

There will be a range of boats on display in all shapes and sizes, power and sail, monohull and multihull, canoes and megayachts, as well as general yachting accessories.

Famed British company, Walcon Marine, will transform Cockle Bay into a stunning marina, where the larger vessels on display will make their home for the show’s duration.

The halls of the Darling Harbour Convention and Exhibition Centre will be open daily from 10am to 8pm.

Subject to weather conditions, the marine on Cockle Bay, will open at 10am and will cease operations at 6pm.

Next year’s Sydney International Boat Show

The Boating Industry Association of NSW recently announced that next year’s Sydney International Boat Show will be held in Darling Harbour in August 2013.  The venue was in doubt due to redevelopment plans, but these have now been rescheduled to 2014.

The redevelopment of the Exhibition Centre will bring long -term benefits to the Show, with undercover exhibition space increasing from 27,000 square metres to 40,000 M2.

Roy Privett, general manager of the Boating Industry Association said “We are excited at the long term prospect for the industry once this facility has been completed.  We are also fortunate that Infrastructure NSW has been working directly with the BIA for almost six months to ensure that we have an interim facility during the construction years of 2014 to 2016 to ensure the Sydney Show continues”.

The BIA has entered into a 10-year agreement with Walcon for the supply of marina walkways and installation of added infrastructure to allow for the expansion of the marina exhibit.

The BIA’s Board of Directors recognise the likelihood of a split show over the redevelopment years, but have vowed to ensure that both marina exhibits and undercover exhibits will run concurrently.

An announcement about the Sydney Boat Show venue for 2014 to 2016 is expected mid-year.
