Tankoa confirms in-build S701 nearing completion

Italian yard Tankoa Yachts has announced that its new-build 72-metre (236-foot) superyacht S701, christened Solo, is nearly complete ahead of her scheduled July launch.

Solo is expected to make her public debut at the Monaco Yacht Show in September.

Her interior and exterior styling is the work of Francesco Paszkowski, and her naval architecture comes courtesy of Studio Ruggiero. While her lines boast similarities with predecessor Suerte, a 69-metre superyacht which launched in 2015, Tankoa describes its new build as a “different animal”.

The yard has offered a comprehensive in-build update on Solo’s progress, supplying a range of insightful new photos and renderings.

The images show that the painting of the hull has been completed, with the vast majority of the superstructure also now painted. Glass installation and the laying of the teak decking are also nearing completion.

Fitting out of the interior is now well underway, with the main-deck cabins and VIP suites 70% finished, the owner’s deck 40% finished and the outfitting of the upper deck – including the wheelhouse, captain’s cabin, radio room, massage room and skylounge – around 50% complete.

The crew quarters, including the laundry and technical space, are also near completion, while amenities such as the pool and Jacuzzi on the owner’s deck are now fully installed and operational.

On-board accommodation is for 12 guests across six cabins, spanning an owner’s deck, a VIP suite, two doubles and two twin rooms. The crew quarters can house up to 18 members of staff.

Solo’s standout features include a winter deck on the main deck, a six-metre aft-deck swimming pool, and a spacious beach club equipped with hammam. Elsewhere, the upper deck saloon is designed with an abundance of entertainment options, including a 90-inch 4K television and a baby grand piano.

Tender storage is for two 7.5-metre tenders, a rescue boat and a Jet Ski split between the foredeck and a side-loading garage.

Standout differences from Suerte include an underwater exhaust, a side staircase within the transom area and a hull fitted with longer skegs. Combined, these changes should result in a longer waterline and a top speed of around 17.5 knots.

Similarly to her predecessor, S701 will be powered by a pair of 2,480hp Caterpillar 3516B diesel engines. She boasts an extra 200GT of interior space and her 162,000-litre fuel capacity will result in an estimated range in excess of 6,000 nautical miles when cruising at 12.5 knots.

Whilst the project experienced a period of hiatus, Tankoa proceeded with the build – on spec – when market conditions improved. Sold at the end of 2016, Solo will comply with LY3 and MCA standards.

According to the yard, she will be an interim yacht for the experienced owner, who is already planning to begin construction on a larger project named S801 after delivery of the S701.
