Tennis superstar Rafael Nadal commissions Sunreef 80 Power

Polish yard Sunreef Yachts has sold a 24-metre (79-foot) Sunreef 80 Power to Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal just two months before the model’s scheduled premiere in September.

The first Sunreef 80 Power will be showcased at Cannes Yachting Festival, with Nadal’s fully customised catamaran due to be delivered in 2020.

Nadal, who met yard founder and president Francis Lapp at last year’s Cannes Yachting Festival, commissioned the yacht after previously chartering a selection of Sunreef catamarans in recent years.

According to Sunreef, the in-house designed model boasts “bold, contemporary hull styling” and is intended for long cruises.

The yacht has a plethora of features including stainless steel portlights, high bulwarks and subtle ambient lighting, as well as a tender garage spacious enough to house a tender and Jet Ski, along with a variety of other water toys.

Sunreef offers several options for the upper deck, including a waterfall-fed spa pool, upper helm position, bar area and retractable hard-top.

Accommodation is for up to 12 guests and four crew members. Power comes from either twin 575hp engines or twin 1,200hp engines.

Discussing the commission and his desire to cruise around , Nadal noted, “As someone from an island, as I am, the sea is part of our lives and it’s not a secret that I love the sea. Every time I am at home in Mallorca I try to go out and find that time where I can just enjoy my time on a boat.”.

Lapp added, “We are very excited to have one of the greatest tennis players of all time on board with us. Mr Nadal’s personality, skills and strength are an inspiration to us.”

The news follows shortly after the announcement that Nadal has placed his Monte Carlo Yachts 76 superyacht Beethoven up for sale earlier this year.
