The Queen gives royal stamp of approval for birthday superyacht

APRIL FOOLS! Hope we caught you out!

After receiving the proposal from a leading shipyard, Her Majesty The Queen has approved the purchase of a new build 95-metre (311-foot) superyacht to celebrate her 95th birthday on 21st April. The shipyard, which cannot be named at this stage, has revealed the motor yacht will be named Liz.

According to palace sources, key features include a sleek gold exterior and a traditional British interior design, with the centrepiece being a grand marble spiral staircase connecting five decks for royal getaways. Inside the 4135GT interior is a massive double height saloon, complete with throne, identical to the one found in Buckingham Palace, and a television for indoor relaxation. The helideck will allow the royals to come and go in style and avoid unwanted public attention at ports and marinas. Elsewhere, the superyacht will feature a designated area for Her Majesty’s new corgi puppies. Liz will also feature two studies and a ballroom for parties and royal engagements. The sun deck aft will feature a bespoke garden, designed by her favourite landscapist Alan Titchmarsh, containing seasonal flowers and a decadent water fountain.

Able to reach top speed of 18 knots, the motor yacht will feature two royal master suites for Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, and there are 5 additional royal staterooms able to accommodate close family and royal acquaintances.

The royal crew will consist of 35 staff, including a full-time royal captain and a second chef catering for Her Majesty’s corgis. Additionally, the crew will include STCW- and ENG1-certified royal guards.

According to a royal spokesperson, the Queen and Prince Philip have also requested a Jacuzzi on the skydeck for unwinding after royal visits as well as a theatre room to enjoy entertainment and performances from favourite artists and musicians. Already tipped to perform at the yacht’s launch function is Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney and Beyonce.

Steve Crowe and the Queen

This latest development comes 12 years after Her Majesty told Yachting Pages CEO, Steve Crowe, that she is interested in purchasing a superyacht. The Queen met Crowe when Yachting Pages won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade Category in 2009 (pictured above).

Liz is due for delivery in early 2023.

Yachting Pages will release images of the yacht as and when they are available.
