We’ve enjoyed reporting on some of the world’s largest superyachts this year, and we thought we’d wrap up the year by looking at the biggest superyacht deliveries of 2018.
At 136 metres (446 feet), superyacht Project Shu represents a milestone for Lürssen in terms of size and complexity.
Upon delivery she jumped straight into the number 14 spot for largest superyachts in the world.
Designed by Espen Oeino, 135-metre (442-foot) Project Thunder comes in at number seven for the biggest Lürssen superyachts of all time.
According to Lürssen, the project was named after the mythical Chinese god ‘Leigong’, which literally translates to ‘God of Thunder’. She has since been renamed Crescent.
German yard Lürssen launched Project TIS from its Rendsburg facility this year. The 111-metre (364-foot) luxury superyacht was designed by British powerhouse Winch Design.
Measuring at 110 metres (360 feet), Project 1007 is Dutch shipyard Feadship’s largest project to date. She features the naval architecture of De Voogt, Feadship's in-house team, and interior and exterior styling by Michael Leach Design.
Dutch shipyard Oceanco delivered Project Bravo with claims that the 109-metre (357-foot) is the first to feature a “LIFE” (Lengthened, Innovative, Fuel Efficient, Eco friendly) design.
This year’s delivery of superyacht Dream saw it become the 37th largest superyacht in the world. Following her decade-long build process at Greek yard Chalkis Shipyards S.A., Dream measures 106 metres (348 feet).
Dutch shipyard Oceanco delivered 90-metre (295-foot) superyacht Project Shark – now one of the 100 largest superyachts in the world.
Suitably coined Project Shark, when viewed above, bears a distinct resemblance to a hammerhead shark, while the mast in profile is shaped like a fin.
Illusion Plus, the largest superyacht to ever be built in Asia, makes the list at 88.5-metres (290 feet).
Chinese shipyard Pride Mega Yachts was inspired by Rolls-Royce motor cars on the project, which features a vertical bow and gently sloping transom.
Feadship also launched 87-metre (285-foot) superyacht, Lonian, in 2018. She is striking with exterior and interior styling by Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design, the latter in cooperation with Richard Hallberg Interior Design.
At 85-metre (279-foot) O’Ptasia is now one of the 200 largest superyachts ever made. Delivered by Greek shipyard Golden Yachts, O’Ptasia is the fleet’s new flagship.
Studio Vafiadis is responsible for her beautiful exterior and interior design.
This year we also saw the delivery of the largest trimaran superyacht in the world – the 84-metre (275-foot) White Rabbit.
White Rabbit also became the biggest superyacht ever built in Australia after her delivery by Henderson-based Echo Yachts.
Built by Yachtley at its shipyard facility in Kocaeli, Turkey, in almost complete secrecy, the 80-metre (262-foot) superyacht is in fact the largest yacht ever to emerge from Turkey.
Launched earlier this year by Turkish shipyard Turquoise Yachts, 77-metre (252-foot) superyacht Go was completed in record time.
The yard’s biggest superyacht to date, Go was launched just 12 months after work was completed on its hull and superstructure, and was delivered just three months later.
Elandess, whose name is believed to be inspired by the first initials of her two owners, was delivered by German shipyard Abeking & Rasmussen earlier this year. The 74.5-metre (244-foot) superyacht yacht features exterior and interior styling by first-time yard collaborators Harrison Eidsgaard – a London-based design studio.
Tuscany-based shipyard The Italian Sea Group delivered its largest build to date. The 73.2-metre (240-foot) superyacht Planet Nine is the 575th vessel launched by the Italian yard.
