Best Yacht Water Toys 2021: Product Review

Offered By EAMS Yacht Tender Center

With thanks to EAMS Yacht Tender Center and an army of superyacht captains and crew!

Yacht captains and senior crew are busy people, particularly when the owner is on board or a charter is underway. Downtime is at a premium and they are completely at the service of all those on board. If the owner or charter party make a request then the expectation is that it will be delivered – and quick.

This pressure dictates that captains and stews require lightning quick reactions to ensure they can handle everything that’s thrown at them (and it’s safe to say they have to deal with some pretty bizarre requests). That’s where Yachting Pages – the captain’s bible – comes in.

Our industry-leading search engine has been by the side of captains and crew for more than 15 years, helping them to source the products or services they need. But sometimes what they’re looking for is knowledge, which is where our library of insightful content comes to the rescue.

In our Tried & Tested feature we task industry experts to conduct real-world tests on essential crew products and services, before providing a comprehensive breakdown of their findings.

Water toys are one of those essential products. Popular for the excitement and fun they create, toys are a staple part of life on board – so it’s important for captains to have a flawless knowledge of the best new products on the market.

Yacht toy specialist EAMS Yacht Tender Center joined forces with Yachting Pages and an army of experienced crew in the south of France to review the products that will be trending in 2021. The crew, consisting of captains, officers, instructors, and engineers, each provided scores across a range of helpful metrics that we’ve averaged out to provide an overall result.

In alphabetical order, these are the water toys that have been put to the test.

airBEACH inflatable platform - (4m x 2m x 0.2m) - RRP: c. €3,050

  • Tenders and toys don’t get too close to hull or structure of yacht

How does the airBEACH inflatable platform rate?

There’s no doubting that the airBEACH is well built and purposeful product. It leads many of its competitors in terms of build quality and finish and is exceptionally easy to use. However, it is heavy and fairly difficult to handle when deflated - which isn't dissimilar to a lot of its competitors. It also lacks a fun factor – granted it’s not the platform’s primary objective and it is cheaper than its competitors, but this probably greatly reduces its desirability.

The unanimous verdict on the Jet-Boat Tender is that while it does offer some fun, particularly for larger groups, its best utilised for practical reasons – it’s ideal as an extra tender. This means it doesn’t quite offer the exhilarating on-water experience that other water toys do, but it’s worth considering for other reasons.

How does the JETSURF DFi rate?

There’s no denying that the JETSURF Race packs a punch and for this reason it’s well suited to experienced toy users with the physical attributes to make the most of its capabilities. In truth its old-fashioned use of petrol power makes it stick out compared to most popular boards on the market right now which utilise electric propulsion – and in a more eco-conscious world that’s not necessarily a good thing.

How does the SEABOB rate?

Unquestionably a popular choice of water toy. As with any underwater toy, it’s got a special appeal. It performs well, is easy to use and the latest versions are lighter than earlier models, showing how the product is evolving over time. However, it isn’t as stylish as its main competitor and it’s more expensive. You won’t be disappointed with a SEABOB, but it has strong competition.
