Triton Submarines and Damen Shipyards perform first European demonstration dives

Triton Submarines LLC, supported by Damen Shipyards, has this week completed its first ever customer demonstration dives in the Balearic Islands. It follows the opening of Triton’s EMEA Service Centre in Barcelona.

Using Triton’s superyacht-optimised Triton 1650/3 LP submersible, more than 20 dives were performed across the four-day customer demonstration event. Having recently received full DNVGL certification, it is the first time members of the public have been able to experience what is Triton’s lightest, most space-efficient three-person submersible.

Patrick Lahey, President, Triton Submarines said, “It is significant that the first public demonstration dives of the Triton 1650/3 LP submersible were held here in Europe. With the opening last week of our EMEA Service Centre in Barcelona, the collaboration we announced at the Monaco Yacht Show, and now these ground-breaking dives in the Balearics, Triton continues to demonstrate our commitment to the region and to pushing the boundaries of what people expect from a luxury, personal submersible.”

The dives were supported by Damen’s latest Yacht Support vessel, the 55-meter New Frontiers. With its large 190-square-meter main deck, New Frontiers carries submersibles and dive-support tenders while accommodating dive crew and submersible pilots. To launch and retrieve the submersibles, the crew used the high performance 12-ton deck crane.

According to Triton, New Frontiers proved to be the perfect vessel from which to conduct back-to-back submersible dives while simultaneously welcoming a large number of invited guests via luxury tender transfers, with the fully serviced guest lounge and accommodation ensuring a “seamless luxury experience”.

Mark Vermeulen, Product Director, Damen Yacht Suport explained, “Submersible operations have been a core specification for almost all the Yacht Support vessels we have delivered. All around the world adventurous owners use their Yacht Support vessels for both superyacht support and dive site prep, weekend dive excursions as well as charter operations. New Frontiers takes it a step further, blending support functions with standalone owner and guest accommodation – it’s the perfect platform for unforgettable luxury submersible adventures.”

During the demonstration dives, technical support was provided for the submersible by Triton’s newly opened EMEA Service Centre at OneOcean Port Vell in Barcelona, Spain, which Triton explained provides customers in Europe, Middle East and Africa with an even greater level of timely support from its team of submersible experts.

Also in attendance were representatives from Triton’s technology, design and engineering partners, Aston Martin, with whom the company is currently developing a new high-performance and ultra-luxurious submersible codenamed Project Neptune. Project Neptune shares a platform with the Triton 1650/3 LP with the dives providing Aston Martin and Triton designers and engineers the opportunity to advance the project forwards.

These demonstrations come ahead of Triton and Damen’s upcoming exhibitions at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in Florida, from 1st to 5th November. Triton’s 1650/3 LP superyacht-submersible will be on show at the Exotic Cars Display on Stand 1417B, while a second Triton 1650/3 LP will be on board Damen’s Yacht Support vessel, New Frontiers at Berth One of “Superyacht Life”. Finally, a Triton 3300/3 MKII submersible will be positioned on board Damen vessel Axis at the Hilton Marina Dock’s third berth.
