Two rescued from sinking superyacht in Australia

Two female crew were rescued from a superyacht off the Port Macquarie coast of New South Wales, Australia yesterday, after it lost steering and began taking on water.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority received an emergency call from superyacht Masteka 2 at 5am local time on the morning of Tuesday 4th October (Monday 8pm UK time), before two local vessels, including cruise ship Carnival Spirit were asked to sail to the aid of the superyacht which had six people on board at the time.

Two female crew were rescued from the yacht, but the remaining crew opted to stay on board in an effort to repair the vessel; pumps and tools have since been delivered via air drop by the Australian Maritime Authority.

Carnival Spirit remained to monitor the yacht and offer assistance, and crew provided emergency supplies and extra fuel, before a tugboat arrived on Thursday morning to help bring the yacht back to Sydney.

Masteka 2 is a 37m semi-displacement motoryacht, built in 2009 by Kha Shing. She is able to charter up to 12 guests across five cabins, with a crew of six.
