Virtual Training Centre rebrands as VIRSEC

UK-based crew training expert Virtual Training Centre has rebranded and is now known as VIRSEC. The company specialises in key areas of training for the maritime and port sectors, as well as having a strong focus on risk mitigation and personal security.

“The rebrand to VIRSEC reflects our experience and expertise in providing professional online training for maritime, port security and risk mitigation. We want to make it easy for people to find us and understand who we are and what we can do for them,” said Stephen Richards, director of VIRSEC.

By emphasising its special focus in specific areas of virtual training, VIRSEC aims to both consolidate its success and highlight an expanded selection of courses to online customers.

Next generation e-learning for essential maritime training

VIRSEC recognises the importance of valuable, effective training within the marine industry. Quality training is fundamental for crew, operational staff and employees to ensure a smooth running of a business or vessel.

E-learning has been steadily expanding along with the technology that supports it, and the COVID-19 pandemic is now driving it as the best way to deliver the essential training that operators, crew members and other employees need.

Richards explained how his well-established but newly rebranded company is helping the maritime sector meet the demands of 21st century training.

“Virtual training and e-learning may be catch-all terms, but different sectors have very specific, specialised requirements, and it is these kind of requirements that we can meet with tailored and industry-recognised online courses.”

Leading the market in online security training

VIRSEC specialises in delivering expert online training through courses that cover maritime and port security, risk mitigation and antiterrorism, personal security and first aid training.

The UK national lockdown put businesses and organisations in a position where they have had to seek alternative options for training their staff, but as Richards points out, virtual training offers more than just convenience.

“We apply dedicated technology in the delivery of government-approved and industry-standard training. E-learning isn’t simply a substitute for face-to-face learning. What it offers is an expanded range of advanced learning methods.”

With specialist virtual training, users can learn at a pace that is comfortable for them, and repeat tasks where necessary to ensure they develop skills and knowledge that stick.

“The point of e-learning is that it is iterative, incremental and tailored to individual requirements. No-one finds themselves in a classroom situation where they might feel left behind, or too advanced. And its flexibility means that employers can tailor the training of their staff to fit the demands of ongoing work.”

Online PDSD training for superyacht crews

The online Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD) course covers the fundamentals of on-board superyacht security for crew members who are tasked with security duties.

“We’re pleased and proud to be able to offer the only online PDSD course that is MCA-approved and tailored to the superyacht sector. This endorsement demonstrates the confidence that online training can inspire, due to its proven effectiveness,” Richards explained.

“Anyone wanting to use experienced crewing staff needs to have the peace of mind that their training is both comprehensive and compliant. We can provide this peace of mind.”
