Italian shipyard VSY (Viareggio Superyachts) has shared details and renderings of its new collaboration with design studio Hot Lab, a 67-metre (220-foot) explorer yacht.
First revealed at last year’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the steel- and aluminium-built vessel boasts naval architecture from VSP and Marin, with engineering from VSY. Both exterior and interior styling aboard the 1,130GT build comes from Hot Lab.
Michele Dragoni, a design partner at Hot Lab, has said that the new yacht focuses “around a concept that is very faithful to the original explorer yacht concept”.
Key indicators of this design are a classic bow design, a bold superstructure reminiscent of research vessels and working boats and a spacious main deck with an aft section which sits flush with the deck.
A beach club is accessed from the main deck via a large hatch, with a panoramic sun deck – apparently resembling a crow’s nest – perches atop the superstructure as an homage to the “legendary age of sail”. The aft deck has also been left open and clear, allowing for a range of superyacht sunloungers and sofas to be arranged.
Due to a lack of transom staircase, the whole section can be folded out for a full-beam swimming platform adjacent to the beach club. Above this on the upper deck is a glass-sided infinity pool.
Dragoni added, "The play on alternating full and empty spaces as one climbs from one deck to another in the beautiful superstructure is most probably the most characteristic stylistic feature of the exteriors.”
Hot Lab’s interior décor – which is said to be “fairly classic” – is available in six- and seven-cabin layouts. With either configuration owners and guests can expect large windows on three of the four decks, allowing the interiors to enjoy torrents of natural light.
An upper-deck owner’s suite includes deluxe extras such as his-and-hers bathrooms, a private study and 180-degree panoramic views.
Although technical specifications are yet to be released, the superyacht is said to have a top speed of 16 knots and, at 12 knots, a range of up to 5,000 nautical miles.
