Warsash Maritime Academy celebrates the ‘passing out’ of new navigation officers

On Saturday 29th November, 61 new navigation officers celebrated the completion of their three year training and education programme at Warsash Maritime Academy. The autumn passing out ceremony was hosted by the academy and held at the Novotel Hotel, Southampton.

This special evening marked the qualification of officers from September 2011 Deck HND and January 2012 Deck Foundation Degree cohorts. The ceremony also welcomed representatives from many shipping organisations, friends and family of the officer cadets and Warsash Maritime Academy staff.

The maritime industry’s top employers and sponsors attended the ceremony and included: Anglo Eastern (UK) Ltd, Government of Bermuda - Ministry of Home Affairs, BP Maritime Services (Isle of Man) Ltd, Carisbrooke Shipping plc, Carnival UK, Chiltern Maritime Ltd, Clyde Marine Training Ltd, Concordia Maritime AB, Graig Ship Management, Maersk Crewing Ltd, Princess Cruises, RCL (UK) Ltd, Ship Safe Training Group Ltd, Thomas Miller & Co Ltd and Viking Recruitment Ltd.

Andrew Hair, director of the Academy said, “A Warsash Maritime Academy qualification is not easily gained but is recognised to be the best in the world. The cadets who graduated as officers on Saturday, and their families and friends, have every reason to be proud, not only of what they have achieved during the last three years, but also of the importance of the work they have trained to do. It is their expertise, and the expertise of professional mariners like them, that enables the global economy to function, and which safeguards our oceans and coastlines.”

The passing out ceremony rounded off another successful year for the academy, including forecasts in the region of 300 new officer cadets joining in 2015.
