Will Smith gifts Chris Rock an extravagant superyacht charter following Oscars incident

Hollywood actor Will Smith has announced he is taking comedian Chris Rock on a week-long luxury superyacht charter as an apology for their bust-up at the 2022 Oscars ceremony. Smith made Oscars history after walking on stage and slapping Rock after he made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

The joke was a reference to the 1997 US war drama GI Jane, which saw Demi Moore shave her head to play Jordan O'Neil, the first woman to undergo Navy Seal training.

The comment riled Smith because Pinkett Smith has alopecia, an auto-immune disorder that causes hair loss.

Since the event, Smith has revealed that he has invited Rock on a week-long charter aboard a luxury superyacht to express his remorse for the “bad boys” incident. Smith has described the trip as the pair’s collective “pursuit of happiness”.

The 68-metre (223-foot) yacht, which cannot be named at this time, will accommodate Rock and his family in Miami later this year, before moving on to the wild, wild west. The trip is due to take place around Independence Day.

Rock can expect to soak up the very best of the seasonal sun and scenery through excursions to famous landmarks and secluded beaches, and he will have access to the best water toys on the market. Among them is an underwater toy for sealife exploration, providing users with the opportunity to enjoy their very own shark tales.

It is understood that Smith and Rock will undertake reconciliatory yoga and therapy sessions on day one, designed to clear-the-air. The pair will also sit together to watch the entire back catalogue of Fresh Prince of Bel Air on a deluxe outdoor projector.

Other charter highlights will include a themed dinner party (men in black) and a specialist martial arts session with a trainer dubbed ‘The Karate Kid’.

Smith said he hopes the retreat will pass without a hitch.

“It will be good to spend some time just the two of us in order to put this to bed,” Smith said.
