Yachting in Ibiza: From parties to pets

A good yacht agent can provide superyacht crew or guests with what they want, when they want it, including some of the most unique and extreme requests. Yachting Pages spoke to Gianluca Lucreziano and Lidia Ferrante of Ibiza-based yacht agent, Yacht Service Ibiza to find out more about the services they can offer and some of their experiences working with clients in one of Europe’s most popular destinations.

How did the business start?

Yacht Service Ibiza was founded 14 years ago. It started in Porto Cervo, Sardinia, but I decided to move to Islas Baleares because the season in Italy is very short compared to Spain, and I knew Islas Baleares inside out.

We pride ourselves on our professionalism and providing a fast and efficient service. We are very professional in everything that we do. When we first arrived on the Island 14 years ago, we began working with just 10 yachts, but now we are currently working with over 500 superyachts that keep coming back to us every season. So we must be doing something right!

What makes you different from your competitors, how are you unique?

We provide a 24/7 service and have never delivered an incomplete service, we never say no, ever. The client’s experience with us is very important; everyone in the company knows that we need to give more than 100% to ensure the client uses our services again. We continue to strive to do things in the best way possible to earn our client’s trust and loyalty. We’re a fully transparent company and have good relationships with all the other professionals on the island.

Our word of mouth is so good that when the other professionals cannot meet client’s requests, they send them to us, because they know we can do everything.

What’s new with your business?  Are you working on any new developments at the moment?

Yacht Service Ibiza has evolved and now offers training to other companies that wish to work as a charter company. We train and help them obtain their license, especially companies that are new to the industry; we can assist with their documentation. If there are any companies that wish to start a charter agency and don’t know how to do it, get in touch, we are happy to help.

What are the biggest challenges that you face in the superyacht industry at the moment?

If you think about it, our “no policy” means we cannot say no to anything, so every day is a challenge. Trying to comply with client’s demands and their needs, no matter what they may be, is a big challenge. This is what makes this business so exciting, we wake up every day thinking about what the day will bring and I cannot avoid feeling happy and excited. You never know what to expect.

How is business?  Have you been affected by the recession?

We haven’t been affected by the recession because Ibiza is a very touristic place and thanks to this we have more clients every year.

What is the most bizarre client request you’ve received?

Some of the more unique requests we have received would be to cut a dog’s hair (and sometimes it’s not a small puppy) or get an emergency doctor or dentist at 11pm.

What can Ibiza offer for visiting yachts?

Everything is unique in Ibiza; the restaurants, the parties; nothing compares to an Ibiza night; it has some of the most famous clubs in the world. We are also blessed with amazing weather, which makes everything easier!

What superyachts/big clients have you worked with that you can share?

I’m afraid I cannot give names because my clients appreciate privacy. But we have worked with superyachts up to 100 metres, which is the maximum Length in Ibiza, so we can say we have worked with the biggest superyachts that have arrived on the Island.

Are you attending any upcoming boat shows?

We will be at the Palma Boat Show and we recently attended Cannes. It’s great because now we are receiving clients from as far away as Africa.
