Why is there a need to protect Posidonia?
Answers and Comments
Posidonia is known as "the lung of the Mediterranean" for being one of the most important sources of oxygen in the Mediterranean Sea. It is a refuge and breeding place for more than 400 plant species and 1,000 animal species. Its economical value is higher than that of coral reefs! It is also highly vulnerable - it grows just 1 metre per century and it cannot be restored.
